Radio Silence

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Well there’s some things that are good about living in the middle of the country side, and some massive things that’re bad.

Good – my zombie friend seems to have vanished. It’s as if he was never here. I wandered outside the day after with my rifle and he was nowhere to be seen. In hindsight, keeping all my tools in the shed wasn’t such a good idea as I had to venture outside to get to them.

That’s now remedied and everything is indoors (aside from zombie friend).

Bad – My internet has completely gone down, and judging by recent posts now that I finally have some form of communication, it’s not only here. I can only assume the main broadband line has been tampered with, as from an old job I know that there are a few main lines that service parts of the country. I’d guess that Wales has been hit at the very least, but there should be some areas of the country still with internet.

Hopefully some of them will find this site?

R.I.P Henry. You won’t be forgotten 🙁

Escape from Aber

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

A lot can happen in a week…

Last Friday all of our internet went down. No amount of rebooting the router would fix it, and none of us had mobile internet, which sounds silly in the world of today, but we were all either too broke to buy new phones or too stuck in our ways to care for them. (more…)

Incessant Murmuring

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

The sound is unbearable.  Murmuring, moaning, screeching, scratching…

We are still safe for the time being, they are in the basement, but with no way in to the ground floor flat we are safe.  Remember that we knocked down the stairs from the ground floor to the first floor too.

The noise is deafening, just constant noise.  Enough to drive you crazy.

Surrounded

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Are these things on some sort of ticking timer?  We’ve woken up and we’re pretty sure they know we’re in here, there is a good number of the things  around the building, it looks like they are in the basement, and I fear they may try to get to the ground floor.  It could get a bit tricky in a minute…

Leo, please post soon to let us know you’re OK, it’s somewhat distressing that we’ve not heard from you in almost two days…
Tom, well done!  It’s a shame it didn’t seem to do anything 🙁  If any of us get into a sticky situation, we need to be able to know how to disarm these beings…

Do they know we’re here?

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Yesterday I said how you couldn’t see the road for zombies, today is much the same.  We’re are starting to wonder if they know we’re here…

The zombies up with us differ in detail.  Some are seriously maimed, with sheets of skin missing, others might miss an arm, while some do look quite normal, I wish we knew how this thing spreads…Or maybe I don’t want to know….

Tom, don’t take chances, we’ve all got to think of ourselves a little bit right now, else be caught.

Odd spread

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

The spread of the infection seems odd, even here in Aber there are days when we see nothing and days when you can’t see the road.  Today has been one of the latter.

Tom, good to hear from you again, I’m glad it’s not looking too grim down your way at the moment.
Leo, I hope you’re still OK, your situation is not unlike ours, though at least we’ve been able to venture out.

What’s happening out of Aber?

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

So we thought we’d do two things: Go out and find more food, and venture out of Aber to see the extent of the damage.

We popped out earlier this morning, George, Don, Andy, and myself – leaving the two girls back in the flats.  We headed out past Morrisons which still looks a wreck, and out on to the A487.
The few villages out this way were deserted, you could see where looting had taken place.  We cautiously went in to a number of houses, taking any remains we could salvage.  We reckon that anyone who was here either left for a more remote location, or had been zombified and made their way into Aber…

We got as far as Llanrhystyd, but couldn’t go any further due to every junction being blocked by trees, they looked like they had been placed there rather than having fallen in the road.
We nabbed all we could from the pub and the post office, including a good deal on bog roll!  I reckon we collected enough for a two or three weeks now!

We’ve just got back, and we’re treating ourselves to some Lambrusco and tinned spag bol.

I’m getting fed up of Monopoly and Scrabble

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

George loves Monopoly and Andy loves Scrabble.  It doesn’t exactly bring everyone together, people arguing over what words are right and who owes who money…I’m staying out of it.

Today has been quiet, we’ve stopped keeping a look out because none of the zombies we see seem to be interested in us.  That one that attacked the front door the other week has finished writhing around the basement courtyard, it’s got red and yellow fuzz all over it now, and we’ve noticed that no birds or anything are going near it…

It wasn’t the spilt milk I was crying over…

Friday, June 10th, 2011

…It was my laptop…

Fran decided she didn’t like drinking milk made from powder, so in the middle of an argument she knocked a large jug of it from the counter.  It spilled over the table and into my laptop, which was thankfully turned off.
I’d rinsed it with water after taking the battery out and left it in the airing cupboard.  I’ve just taken it out now, and it appears OK!

So that’s why you haven’t heard much from me, I’ve been nursing a drowned laptop back to health…

Cool and calm

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

The morning is light and we’ve not seen a lot over the last 24 hours.  The tinned steak is surprisingly good, and Andy does a mean SPAM fritter!

I reckon supplies will hold out until Friday at least, we’ve all learn to ration ourselves.
